The Marian Cooper Community Foundation, Inc. (MCCF) is dedicated to supporting charitable organizations that provide essential services to underserved communities in the greater Port Jervis, NY area. Our mission is to help address local community needs by offering funding to initiatives that make a meaningful impact.
As a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, both federally and by the state, the MCCF is committed to fostering positive change and strengthening our community through thoughtful giving.
The Marian Cooper Community Foundation (M.C.C.F.) EIN #20-2783461 was formed in 2004 and is a registered 501c3 charitable foundation. The M.C.C.F. was created to raise funds and directly impact our local community that we love so much. At its inception, the M.C.C.F. had 3 visions in helping our community. First, we very much wanted to contribute to the success of our local students by creating scholarships for graduating seniors. Second, we wanted to have a “proactive” ability to fund local organizations like the Boy Scouts or other individuals that needed funds for their community improvement activities. Third, we wanted the ability to have “reactive” funds available to help people in our community faced with unexpected challenges.
While those main tenets remain in place for the M.C.C.F., we have certainly evolved over the past 20+ years.
Today, the Marian Cooper Community Foundation is the “umbrella” of many sub-organizations and manages over $500,000 in net assets.
The largest organization under the M.C.C.F., with over $175,000 in assets, is the Port Jervis Education Foundation (PJEdFd). The PJEdFd was created in 2010 with 2 very specific goals. First, never allow any student within the Port Jervis School District to be held back because of financial challenges. This includes taking any and all college credit classes, college placement exams, and any other scenario in which a student wouldn’t be able to participate because of monetary considerations. Second, our goal was to allow our teachers to be creative in their classrooms and not be constrained by budget restrictions. Any educator within the Port Jervis School District may apply for a $1,000 grant to help them go above and beyond in the classroom and reach our students in unique ways.
Another organization that is now under the M.C.C.F. umbrella is the Port Jervis Soap Box Derby (PJSBD). While the PJSBD has been active for 18 years, 5 years ago the PJSBD moved their assets to the M.C.C.F. The PJSBD has two missions. First, the running of one of the world’s largest Soap Box Derby events every June in Port Jervis, NY. Second, to provide scholarships for graduating seniors that have participated in the event.
